Competitions

A Song Writing competition takes place during the Open Mic event. There is a small entry fee to take part in this event, and the winner is presented with the Iain Maclennan trophy, and a cheque for £50.

This is a very popular competition for both seasoned and novice song-writers. As there is a limit to the number of entries we have time for, we recommend you apply in good time, entries being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. See the rules for details.

A Recycled Instrument competition also takes place during the Open Mic event. It is free to take part in this event. The idea is to produce a playable musical instrument from any old rubbish, the nature of the instrument being entirely at the maker's whim. Judging is done by the same people judging the Song Writing Competition and the winner is presented with a (probably worthless) keepsake.
